After a few days of heavy rain and severe storms in Harvest, Alabama, the aftermath usually leaves property owners dealing with a mess. Fallen limbs, downed trees, and washed-up trash can quickly turn a beautiful landscape into a hazard.
Here at Anything Skid Steer, we handle a lot of heavy-duty land clearing and debris removal. But sometimes, being a local business owner isn’t just about firing up the machinery—it’s about taking care of the community.
A Call for Creek Clearing and Debris Removal
Recently, a loyal, repeat customer gave me a call. The heavy rains had wreaked havoc on her property, completely clogging the creek behind her house with logs, limbs, and storm trash. Blocked creeks can lead to localized flooding and erosion, so she asked if I could come out and open it up for her.
Usually, this is exactly the kind of job our skid steers are built for. But when I arrived to assess the storm damage, I realized the blockage wasn't as severe as it could have been. Instead of unloading the equipment and turning it into a massive job, I jumped right in and started clearing the creek by hand.
Doing the Right Thing for Our Customers
It wasn't a backbreaking job, just a bit of manual debris removal. Given my upbringing and the way I run my business, my conscience simply wouldn't allow me to charge a repeat customer for what amounted to helping out a neighbor in need. We got the water flowing again, I packed up, and I headed home.
The Best Reward: A Customer's Trust
I didn't think much of it until I logged onto Facebook later that day and saw this incredibly kind post from her:
"I just want to say thank you to Greg Chappell for all the help he did for me this morning. As all of you know I have a creek behind my house. Last week when we had all that rain and storms my creek got blocked with logs, limbs and trash. I asked him if he could remove all of that mess and of course he could. Here is the blessing I received. He would not take any money for cleaning up storm damage. He has done a lot of work for me and I highly recommend him."
Reading those words is exactly why I do what I do. At Anything Skid Steer, we pride ourselves on hard work, honesty, and treating our clients like family. Whether a job requires our heavy-duty skid steers to move tons of earth, or just a pair of work gloves to clear out a creek, we are here to help.
